YES FOREVER: PART TWO Bailey Bradford 24
The look on Benji’s face, a split-second of that warm bubbly happiness, was instantly replaced with a hurt expression that he hid by turning his back to John.
Well shit. I’ve done it again. He’d let his insecurities and social ineptness get in his way of being a decent human being. John let go of the door, the sound of it closing unmistakable.
Benji didn’t look back, though, steering his grandfather to the doors leading outside.
John let them go. If he was late to work, so be it. That hurt look Benji had sent him was going to bother him until he straightened things out with the man, but running after him now would be foolish. At least, that’s what John kept telling himself.
He was late getting to work, and he did indeed get an ass-chewing from his boss. After sincerely apologising and promising to get his head out of his rump, John went back to his desk and rested his head in his hands. He wasn’t as strong, or as healed as he’d thought he was if something like what had happened with Benji was tearing him up so much.
It was the confusion that was the worst. There was only one way to clear that up. He’d talk to Benji tonight.
Having made the decision, John began to feel better immediately. It was the right thing to do. Maybe he would even take Benji up on the no strings attached fling, as long as they were both truly okay with it. He’d need to make sure Benji knew he was looking for more, though. It was too bad Benji had said he wasn’t interested in anything long term, John mused, finally admitting what was at the root of the problem for him. And that meant he probably shouldn’t get into a casual fuckbuddies things with Benji. John was afraid he’d end up hurt when Benji found someone else to have sex with. Still, they would talk, or he’d talk and try to apologise if Benji would listen.
He worked a deal with Jassic Hotels to create a pretty, durable design for their two new hotels going up south of San Antonio, where there was a dearth of housing and rooms for the oil workers flooding the area. Durable was exceedingly important, considering the grit and grime that would be tracked across the carpets. John could back up their product’s claims with proof from other hotels they’d carpeted in the same areas.
By the end of the day, he was in a much better mood, but he was nervous, too. Excited at the possibility of talking to Benji if they could get past the weirdness that had happened between them. John tried not to think about touching Benji, feeling him writhe and come in his arms. That was a direction he wasn’t sure was wise for him, but it wasn’t off the table should Benji want to talk about it. John mused over the possibilities as he drove home.
